Lucas Torreira Agent Confirms Lazio Talks

Fresh from lifting the Turkish Super Lig trophy with Galatasary, Lucas Torreira could return to Serie A to team up with Lazio. In an interview with LaLazioSiamoNoi, the player’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, confirmed the upcoming meeting with the Biancocelesti powerbrokers to discuss a deal.

I have to be honest. I have an official meeting with Lazio to hear their proposal. They play in the Champions League, and Lucas has always loved Italy.” he said, fuelling speculation about the Uruguayan’s imminent return to Serie A.

Torreira made a name for himself at Sampdoria before earning a high-profile switch to Arsenal in 2018. While the move didn’t pan out as expected, the 27-year-old briefly made his way back to Italy, spending the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Fiorentina.

An eye-catching season-long loan at Artemio Franchi prompted Galatasaray to fork out €6 million and bring Torreira to Istanbul last summer. The midfielder penned a four-year contract at Nef Stadium and went on to win the league title with Okan Buruk’s team in his first season.

With that in mind, the Turks are happy to keep hold of Torreira. As revealed by his agent, Galatasaray haven’t put his client up for sale. Nonetheless, the Uruguay international is ready to listen to what Lazio have to offer.

I must be very clear. He is not for sale. But business is business, and players are players. We have this appointment and we will go. With respect for the great club that is Lazio and to hear what they want to propose.”

With the lure of Champions League football back on the table, Lazio may not shy away from the task. Torreira would be a decent coup for Maurizio Sarri if they can get the deal over the line.

Lazio could soon wave goodbye to long-serving stalwart Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serb’s departure would open a huge gap in Sarri’s midfield, hence the need for reinforcements. But Torreira is not the same type of player as the 28-year-old. That could only mean the Biancocelesti are in the market for multiple midfield signings.
