Luis Alberto Fuels Speculations About Lazio Exit with Milan Waiting in Wings

Lazio playmaker Luis Alberto did not show up for the pre-season gathering on the training ground on Wednesday, sparking rumors about a potential move to Milan. According to Libero (via MilanNews), the Spaniard wants to leave Rome amid growing speculations about possible summer departure.

Alberto has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Hakan Calhanoglu at the San Siro, with the Turk leaving Milan for bitter rivals Inter earlier in the summer. The Rossoneri are following several high-profile players, with the 28-year-old’s name reportedly featuring Paolo Maldini’s shopping list close to the top.

Despite returning to the Champions League following an eight-year hiatus, Milan are operating on a tight budget and might not have the financial capacity to fund Alberto’s transfer. Lazio bigwig Claudio Lotito is known as a tough negotiator, and with the midfielder’s contract running out in 2025, the Biancocelesti are in a strong bargaining position.

However, the Lombard heavyweights hope Alberto could force Lazio’s hand this summer. The Spanish metronome has been one of the club’s key figures over the past few years, becoming one of the most highly appreciated playmakers in Serie A in the process.

Juventus and several foreign sides are also in the running for Alberto’s signature as the summer break-up with Lazio looks imminent. The Biancocelesti are expected to make a substantial profit from their star’s potential departure considering they paid just €4million to take him away from Liverpool in 2016.

Known for his technical and playmaking skills, Alberto would be a great addition to Stefano Pioli’s side. Last season, he clocked up nine goals and four assists in all competitions for Lazio.
