Luis Maximiano Reveals Lazio Dream and Buffon Inspiration

Following the departures of Pepe Reina and Thomas Strakosha from the Lazio ranks, new acquisition from Granada, Luis Maximiano, is preparing to have a starring role as the number one between the posts at the Stadio Olimpico. He is the club’s first Portuguese goalkeeper.

Speaking at his opening press conference (via LazioNews24) as a Biancocelesti player, the 23-year-old shed light on his arrival in the Italian capital. The shot-stopper believes he is fulfilling ‘the dream of many’ to play for Lazio.

“The truth is that there is always a first time, I’m excited and I hope it’s the beginning of a great story. I’m happy to follow in the footsteps of my compatriots here.”

Maximiano revealed he didn’t think twice when the opportunity to star in Italy for Lazio knocked on his door.

“I generally don’t follow the news much, but when my agent called me I immediately said yes, it is the dream of many to play here. I know there is a lot to learn here, there is a lot of work on technique that’s also why I chose Italy.”

The former Granada man also spoke of his inspirations growing up in his role.

“The Italian tradition has very strong goalkeepers, I grew up watching Gianluigi Buffon. I would like to learn from everyone, not just from one in particular.”

Maximiano moved to Lazio on a €12M deal and will soon be joined by Ivan Provedel.
