Lukaku Arrives in Italy to Finalize His Napoli Switch

Napoli have almost completed their lengthy pursuit of Romelu Lukaku before finding a solution for Victor Osimhen. Chelsea and Al-Alhi continue to battle it out. They had to wait for almost the entire window to get their man. Still, they never wavered nor considered other strikers, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The newcomer took the medicals in Rome on Wednesday and then headed South for the signature. He’ll be announced on Tuesday. The Partenopei didn’t need to activate his €44M release clause but will pay a hefty price. They’ll disburse €30M, plus €15M potential add-ons and the percentage of a future sale. He’ll make €8M for the next three years.

New Napoli coach Antonio Conte insisted on reuniting with Lukaku this summer. The two spent two years together at Inter. The marksman bagged a whopping 64 goals. His ensuing spells at Chelsea, back in Milan, and with Roma weren’t as productive.

Despite some up-and-down performances and his inability to show up in big games, he still hit the net 21 times in 47 games last season, avoiding injuries.

Our Take on Napoli and Lukaku

It’s always nice to snap up the primary target and see a long chase come to fruition, but, even though Conte knows how to use and feed him better than anybody else, it’s a massive risk given the fee, his age, and the not-so-stellar campaign at Roma where he looked over the hill at times. After a lull midway through the summer, the Partenopei are going all-in again on the transfer market. Their ‘win-now’ mentality better pay dividends, or they’ll be in a financial hole for years to come.
