Lukaku ‘Desperate’ to Leave Chelsea and Return to Inter

Romelu Lukaku is hell-bent on reuniting with Inter, but the deal remains extremely complex. He will soon talk with the new ownership as the Todd Boehly takeover is about to be formally complete. The Blues acquired him for €115M a year ago. They would have to sign off on a loan spell for him to go back.

According to Corriere della Sera, the striker is at odds with his agent Federico Pastorello, who recently said that there are no ongoing talks with the Nerazzurri. The representative met with the club last week but only to discuss Sebastiano Esposito and Federico Bernardeschi. The star was irate and had his lawyer Sebastien Ledure reach out to CEO Giuseppe Marotta to schedule a meeting, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

According to the outlets, Inter could give Lukaku at most €7M per year. Instead, he earns €12M plus €3M add-ons in London. Chelsea would have to agree to a loan and contribute to paying his wages. The fact that FIFA banned multi-year temporary spells complicates the matter. According to Gazzetta, the directors of the Italian side are skeptical that the comeback could indeed come to fruition. In addition, the Nerazzurri would have to pick between their former ace and Paulo Dybala.

Our Take on Lukaku Trying to Re-Join Inter

Crazier things have happened, but it would be stunning if Inter really brought back Lukaku. It is a bizarre situation as he is pushing for the move, while the side he would transfer to is open to it but does not seem super determined to make it happen. Players tend to have their way in today’s sports, but this would be an extreme case. As Corriere points out, the Blues did something similar with Hernan Crespo and Andriy Shevchenko not too many years ago.
