Lukaku Eager to Stay Put at Inter Past Present Loan

Romelu Lukaku wants to continue playing for Inter after the end of his current loan spell and is willing to do what it takes to make it happen. His camp has reprised talking with Chelsea to inquire about the conditions to prolong his Milan sojourn.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, his lawyer Sebastien Ledure, who orchestrated his return through an affordable formula, has gotten in touch with the English side. Even though Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of the striker and could give him a chance, a London return doesn’t entice the Belgian international, especially since the Blues won’t play in the Champions League next season.

The fee for another temporary spell can’t be lower than €8M. It’s directly related to his valuation on the balance sheets. Chelsea paid €115M to buy Lukaku from Inter two years ago. Instead, the center forward could give up part of his wages to lower the entire cost. He already did it last summer, as his net salary would have amounted to €12M if he didn’t transfer.

The 30-year-old is determined to make La Beneamata the final stop of his career. Even though the Blues are keen on other Nerazzurri stars, the prospective confirmation of the marksman won’t be part of a larger deal given its complexity technically and math-wise.

Our Take on Inter and Lukaku

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and he has always been adamant about staying. The reservations come more from the team that has to renegotiate the terms. Their deep Champions League run gave them unexpected ammo, plus his latest performances have been superb. Everything is moving toward the player getting his wish.
