Lukaku on Skipping International Duties, Conte and More

Romelu Lukaku stayed in Naples for the second consecutive break to work on his conditioning. Coach Domenico Tedesco stated that the striker motivated his choice with the fact that he didn’t have a proper pre-season preparation because of his impending exit from Chelsea.

The marksman spoke to TG1 on Thursday night (via OneFootball).

“Spending time with my club was more important to me at this stage. I decided to keep working: I didn’t have the retreat last year and paid the price for it in the end.”

Lukaku confirmed that Antonio Conte was instrumental in bringing him to Napoli.

“He’s very important to me. Everybody is aware of what kind of relationship we have. He’s known me for a long time.”

The Belgian forward is impressed with the level of the League but is cautious with his side’s ambitions.

“Serie A is truly roaring back. We have to stay calm because we’re just at the start our journey. The best title? The next one.”

Lukaku offered a peek into his personal life.

“When I’m not on the pitch, I like to play video games with my older son. I also cook occasionally. My favorite Italian dish is the carbonara. I’ll become a coach after I retire. My best goal was the first one with Anderlecht when I was 16. It changed my life. My favorite city is Bruxelles. It’s where I usually live, and my friends and family are all there.”

Lukaku has gotten off to a fast start after his late switch, logging three goals and four assists in his first five appearances.
