Lukaku Opens Up on Chelsea, Inter Return and Objectives

Romelu Lukaku discussed how his stunning Inter comeback came to be and spoke about the upcoming season in a candid interview with DAZN, where he showed regret for leaving the Nerazzurri in the first place.

“The first person to whom I told I was returning was Lautaro Martinez. The following ones were Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni. I have to thank the fans for their affection towards me and my family. I apologize again for the way I departed and I will need to respond on the pitch.”

The Belgian star looked back at the challenging campaign with Chelsea.

“Last season provided me with extra motivation to do even better than before, because everybody forgot what I’m capable of on the pitch in a year. This anger is fueling me. We aim to win something. I decided to join the Blues to get my revenge, since I could have had a starring role after the reunion. That wasn’t the case.”

Lukaku admitted that the move back to Inter had been in the works for a long time.

“Such opportunity first arose in March, but I didn’t say anything at first. My camp and the management worked very well to make it happen. The last campaign was hard on me and I didn’t have any doubts. The Nerazzurri play in a different fashion now and I will have to adjust and understand the schemes of the coach. But it almost feels like I never left because I stayed in touch with my former teammates.”

The striker has a clear goal for next season.

“I don’t care about winning the Capocannoniere chart, we are shooting for the Scudetto. I’m here for the title, not for my personal benefit.”
