Lukaku Resolutely Trying to Force His Way Back to Inter

Romelu Lukaku won’t show up at the start of Chelsea’s pre-season retreat as he’s eager to go back to Inter. The Nerazzurri have been trying to come to terms with Blues on a fee to sign him permanently, but to no avail so far. Their first offer was rebuffed, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The striker has agreed with his current club that he won’t resume training Wednesday. They would like to finalize the transfer before July 17th, when they will travel to the United States for a series of friendlies.

Lukaku has given his clear priority to Inter despite receiving some wealthy offers from Saudi Arabia. The Italian side put €25M on the table. They are expected to raise their opening bid and bring it to €30/35M.

It remains to be seen whether it’ll be enough to convince Chelsea, which paid €113M for the Belgian international two years ago. Lawyer Sebastien Ledure is conducting the negotiation.

Our Take on Lukaku and Inter

The outcome of the talks primarily hinges on the sale of André Onana. Steven Zhang has been quite strict when it comes to footing purchases and other technical financial aspects. While the Blues might be in a rush, there’s plenty of time left in the summer. But the Nerazzurri have to be wary of the Saudi threat.
