Yunus Musah’s career at Milan may last shorter than expected after Lyon opened talks with the Rossoneri to sign the United States international. According to French news outlet Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 giants have identified the USMNT star as a concrete midfield target.
Discussions between Milan and Lyon are already off and running. It’s been a busy summer for John Textor’s side. Les Gones secured European qualification against the odds last season despite languishing in the drop zone at the halfway point of the 2023/24 campaign.
Keen to avoid another gut-wrenching season, Lyon have taken a proactive approach since the start of the transfer window. Several exciting prospects, including Georges Mikautadze and Orel Mangala, have already touched down at the Groupama Stadium. The Milan ace could be next.
However, Lyon must be prepared to fork out a substantial figure to price the 21-year-old out of Milan. The Serie A powerhouse paid Valencia €18 million to bring Musah to San Siro only last summer. Therefore, the French club would at least have to meet that figure.
But Milan are reportedly reluctant to sell the former Arsenal academy member. They rebuffed Napoli’s attempt to lure Musah to the Diego Maradona Stadium earlier this summer, clarifying their ambition to keep hold of the versatile midfielder.
Musah’s first season at Milan wasn’t a resounding success. Yet, he still picked up 30 appearances in Serie A and added nine more in Europe as the Rossoneri competed in the Champions League and Europa League.
