Despite Milan changing ownership from Elliott Management to RedBird Capital, there were no doubts regarding the stay of two of the main architects of the Rossoneri’s 19th Scudetto victory last season – Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. Both executives are reportedly just one step away from signing contract extensions, after which the club will resume its summer transfer pursuits.
Relations between new owner Gerry Cardinale and the aforementioned duo are positive, and there are no question marks regarding a positive outcome, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb). The negotiations are expected to be held not by CEO Ivan Gazidis but directly by the chairman, who is currently in New York with the aim of raising capital ahead of the new season.
The new contracts of Maldini and Massara with Milan are expected to be signed by the end of the current week. They are set to agree to two-year deals with an optional third season, Antonio Vitiello reports. However, the Rossoneri will need to act fast since it will give them reduced time of action to conclude other pending transfer deals, such as for Renato Sanches and Sven Botman, as other contenders are trying to hijack them.
