Milan Ibrahimovic pros and cons

Paolo Maldini Confirms Ibrahimovic Will Likely Extend His Contract

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is on the verge of signing a contract extension at Milan, says club technical director Paolo Maldini. According to Sky Sports Italia, the 52-year-old has confirmed that only the final details are missing before the Swede put pen to paper on a new season-long deal.

Ibrahimovic returned to the San Siro in December 2019 and has since excelled in Serie A, helping the fallen giants restore some of their former glory. Indeed, the 39-year-old has been the catalyst to give the Rossoneri a decisive nudge towards the top-four and help them interfere in the Champions League promotion race for the first time in years.

Ibrahimovic has almost single-handedly turned a struggling team into a force to be reckoned with, adding a much-needed winning mindset to Stefano Pioli’s squad.

Aging like a fine wine, the famous striker has had a significant contribution to Milan’s current position in the standings. He has netted 15 goals in 17 Serie A outings this season, helping his side climb up to second.

With his contract running out at the end of the season, the Lombardians are working around the clock to extend their talisman’s deal for another year. There will be no bumper terms in the new arrangement, with Ibra expected to earn approximately €7million a year, as is the case with his current contract.

Only yesterday, Ibrahimovic set up Ante Rebic for Milan’s opener in a 3-1 away win at Parma before picking up a straight red midway through the second half.

During the post-match interview, Maldini has admitted the parties are close to reaching an agreement for Zlatan to stay put beyond the summer.

For Ibrahimovic, there are only small details missing. We are very close to renewal,” the Rossoneri technical director said.

Speaking of Ibra’s unparalleled self-confidence, he has recently returned to the national team, almost five years after retiring from international football.

Despite his age, there is still a genuine feeling that Ibrahimovic can be a difference-maker for Milan next season, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.
