Man United and Chelsea Monitoring Italian Defender

Last night, Roma made an enormous step towards the Europa League quarter finals by beating Shakhtar Donetsk with three unanswered goals. Once again, Giallorossi defender Gianluca Mancini contributed on both phases of the game, and was the author of the third goal, and the list of his suitors is apparently growing, with Manchester United and Chelsea keep tabs on the situation.

According to Calciomercato, the 24-year-old scored his fifth goal of season on Thursday night, and they have all been through headers. Therefore, the Romanista becomes the charts leader in this regard when it comes to Serie A players,  even surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo who scored four headers in all competitions this season.

The defender has also become one of the leaders within Paulo Fonseca’s squad, and proved his toughness and character last night by playing through a physical problem.

Looking back at the figures behind his arrival to the Italian capital, it appears that his transfer from Atalanta in 2019 was a real bargain. The center back completed his move Roma on an initial loan fee worth 2 million euros, and was then redeemed for an additional 13 millions.

Therefore, the same report believes that the player is now attracting the interest of several Premier League clubs. Whilst Everton are long-time admirers of Mancini, Man United and Chelsea are also taking note of his development.

Nonetheless, the source adds that the Italian club is unwilling to cash in on the Azzurri defender, as they see him as true pillar for the future.

However, the tough economical situation – especially amidst the Covid-19 pandemic – could force the Giallorossi to sell some players next summer.

Thus, it remains to be seen whether Roma will receive an important transfer bid for Mancini, and if so, whether or not they will be able to resist it.
