Manchester City and United Pursuing Two Top Serie A Defenders

Manchester City and Manchester United are looking at the Peninsula to bolster their defenses as both are interested in Napoli’s star Kalidou Koulibaly, while the Red Devils are also keen on Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, Tuttomercatoweb’s transfer market expert Niccolò Ceccarini reported over the weekend.

Koulibaly has long been coveted by the Citizens, which offered €60M in September, but they were rebuffed by Napoli, who asked for over €80M. The journalist indicated that it is unlikely that the proposal will be that rich again given the different economic conjuncture, but their pursuit remains intense. They would be in pole position if the Partenopei ever decided to sell the 29-year-old Senegalese international, something they have resisted to so far. PSG also targeted him in the past, but to no avail.

On the other hand, Milenkovic is decisively more likely to leave since his contract expires in June of 2022 and the negotiation to extend it has progressed very slowly, to the point that a renewal before the summer window is unlikely. Should that be the case, the Viola would put him on the market with a €35/40M price tag. While there are several clubs after him, the player would prefer moving to the Premier League, local newspaper La Nazione reported.

The towering 23-year-old defender joined Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade in 2017 and has been a staple over the last three campaigns, amassing 120 appearances and scoring ten times. He also has 27 caps with the Serbian national team.
