Inter Beaten by Manchester City for Akanji, Sign Acerbi

Manchester City have topped Inter to the signing of Borussia Dortmund outcast Manuel Akanji, the club confirmed via an official statement.

The Nerazzurri had long casted an eye upon the Swiss international for a summer transfer, eyeing him mainly ass a direct replacement for PSG target Milan Skriniar. However, PSG didn’t acquire the Slovak, prompting Akanji to consider his future elsewhere.

The 27-year-old moves to Manchester in a transfer worth €17.5M – on a five-year deal, which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2027. He becomes the sixth transfer of the summer for the Cityzens following their inclusions of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez, Julian Alvarez, and Stefan Ortega.

While they missed out on the Swiss international, Inter will indeed sign a center-back anyway. After an impasse, president Stevan Zhang has greenlighted the addition of Francesco Acerbi, who will join on loan with a €4M option to buy, Alfredo Pedullà reports. He was the most affordable target to replace Andrea Ranocchia, also because he was eager to reunite with coach Simone Inzaghi, who was clamoring for another option in the back.
