Manchester City Boss Guardiola Backs Sassuolo to Lift Scudetto

In a comment no one expected, Manchester City gaffer Pep Guardiola said he hoped for Sassuolo to lift the Scudetto this season. Sassuolo have established themselves as Serie A dark horses since being promoted to the top flight, and the former Barcelona tactician didn’t hold himself back from tagging the Neroverdi as his choice.

Guardiola was a special guest at an event organized by the CRC Foundation in the Italian city of Cuneo.

The duo have clashed time and again in the Premier League, and Guardiola praised De Zerbi’s winning mentality and compared him to Allegri.

“It’s an ancient discussion, do you think that Allegri doesn’t want to win? The same goes for De Zerbi too, they both want to win. Allegri is convinced of being able to win with his ideas, ditto De Zerbi. De Zerbi doesn’t look for aesthetics, he wants to win. And I believe I can do it by playing according to what his beliefs are. The same goes for Allegri, he also wants to win. All the coaches they want to win, no one thinks only of the beautiful and says that they are not interested in winning. I’ve never seen a coach who doesn’t want to win or a player who doesn’t want to play well. They are ways of interpreting football.”

Guardiola then named Italian icon Roberto Baggio as the most talented player he’s played with during their days together at Brescia.

“I think talent can be found everywhere. I don’t think there is no talent in Italy. Certainly the most talented footballer I have played with is Roberto Baggio.”
