Manchester City Set Sights on Torino Centerpiece Ricci

Manchester City will be on the prowl for a midfielder in January after losing Rodri for the rest of the season, and Samuele Ricci has emerged as a potential target to replace him. The Sky Blues have been linked also to Atalanta’s Ederson and Inter’s Nicolò Barella.

Torino usually don’t make big sales during the winter, but they are generally open for business if an offer is proper, TuttoSport relays (via Fantacalcio). They already cashed in on Alessandro Buongiorno and Raoul Bellanova in the summer for a total of €55M, so their finances are in excellent shape.

The Granata value Ricci €40 or so, therefore Manchester City will have to come forward with a large bid to persuade them. The midfielder rarely makes the stat sheet but is having a strong start to the season under new coach Paolo Vanoli.

According to the CIES (via Sky), he’s been the second-best ball-handler under pressure in Europe, completing 92,5 percent of his passes in such a situation so far. Only Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich has been more efficient.

The Empoli youth product moved to Torino for nearly €10M in 2022. He has tallied 4 goals and 6 assists in 99 Serie A matches and has 4 caps with Italy. Milan are also reportedly interested.

Our Take on Manchester City and Ricci

He’s more similar to their injured star in terms of traits than their other two Serie A targets. The Granata are pragmatic, and it’d be a massive opportunity for him. The Premier League champions surely aren’t short on cash but probably have a few high-profile options in their crosshairs.
