Manchester United Offered Ronaldo Lowered Contract, Juventus on Hold

With his Euro finishing early, Juventus do not wait for too long to know the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. The club is likely to meet his agent Jorge Mendes soon. They have not received offers, but the situation could change quickly if the star wanted to leave. The Portuguese press suggested he could get a one-year extension, pushing the expiration date of his contract to 2023. However, the rumors have not been confirmed, and there is no ongoing negotiation, Gianluca Di Marzio reported.

Juventus have been preparing for both scenarios, and the break-up would not be traumatic. His €31M salary is difficult to afford in the post-pandemic scenario. So far, just one team has offered him a contract: Manchester United, Di Marzio added. However, the Red Devils would give him half of what he is making now. Therefore, Ronaldo has to decide between playing out his deal and taking the loss in 2022, or doing it right away.

Instead, PSG and Real Madrid are waiting for other situations to develop before considering making a move. Juventus so far have not sensed uneasiness from his camp about the possibility of staying, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed. If he departed, they would have to add a prolific striker, on top of confirming Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala. Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, and PSG’s Mauro Icardi would be the top candidates for the role. The Brazilian forward could join on an initial loan, but there is a chance he is included in the package to acquire Harry Kane from Tottenham.
