Mancini Dishes on Immobile and Insigne Azzurri Future

Roberto Mancini will continue to lean on the Euro winners, including Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne, for the clash with Argentina. However, that does not necessarily mean they will continue to be regulars afterward. The Lazio striker previously stated that he had yet to decide whether or not to retire from international duties.

The Italy coach spoke with Rai Sport after attending a U-17 game: “We do not have enough options to completely overhaul the team. We will insert some youngsters, as we have done in the Turkey game. Those that were part of the summer squad will play against Argentina, as they earned it. Then we will see for the ensuing matches.”

Mancini is not sure whether Immobile and Insigne will continue to be called up after the June fixtures: “I have not talked with Ciro, and I do not know what he has in mind. It is clearly a tough situation, and he needs to find a way to move past it. We have some prospects that need to play at higher levels. We have to start rebuilding from the ground up and follow them very closely. They need to be given trust and make experience in order to obtain big satisfactions in the future.”

The gaffer looked back at the World Cup elimination: “We are still highly disappointed. There are moments when everything goes your way and others when it does not. We must not forget what we accomplished, and we will be the reigning Euro champions until 2024.”
