Roberto Mancini previewed the upcoming Azzurri call-ups and matches and commented on Serie A in an interview with DAZN.
“The European fixtures have an impact on domestic play too. It seems to me that the situation is working in Napoli’s favor, while those behind have more trouble dealing with them. The Partenopei are playing really well and have an international style. They have found some players that are truly shining. Along with their previous group, they have found incredible balance. They deserve what’s coming.”
The Italy boss confirmed that Mateo Retegui would be part of the squad.
“We’ve been following him for a while. He’s young but he has been a starter in Argentina for two years. He has traits we need. We thought he wouldn’t accept, but he did it right away. Our hope is that all our strikers, for instance Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca, would play and bloom.”
Mancini weighed in on Nicolò Zaniolo.
“I think that youngsters have always been pivotal for us. It’s up to them. They can go through rough stretches, but they can always bounce back abruptly and become important players. It goes for him and for other talents in similar situations.”
The coach heaped praise on Nicolò Fagioli and Fabio Miretti.
“We’re pleased with their performances. They are good guys. They’ll have a great future with the national team, even though we have no problems in the midfield, unlike other positions.”
Mancini examined the clash with England.
“I hope it will be a good game. The stadium will be packed as always. Naples will help us. They are a strong opponent. It will be paramount to get off to a good start.”
