Marcus Thuram Thrilled After Inter Squeeze Past Roma

Marcus Thuram soaked the limelight as Inter hero in Sunday’s Serie A heavyweight clash against Roma with a late winner. The Frenchman poked home a teasing low cross from Federico Dimarco in the 81st minute to settle a heated affair at Giuseppe Meazza.

It was Thuram’s fourth goal for Inter in Serie A since joining the club as a free agent from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer. However, tonight’s goal holds added value as it helped Simone Inzaghi’s side navigate a challenging contest and inflict revenge on Romelu Lukaku.

Thuram has taken Lukaku’s place at Inter after the Belgian ‘betrayed’ Nerazzurri during the summer and went on to join Roma. Interestingly, of his four Serie A goals, three have served as match-openers. But while Inzaghi’s side netted at least two more goals on the two previous occasions, this was his first match-winner.

As with against Benfica or Torino, it’s always a pleasure to score a goal at home, in front of the fans,” the new Inter talisman said, as quoted by FCInterNews. “Every match at San Siro is special. I’m very happy to score here.”

Thuram continues to rack up numbers, but he maintains he doesn’t care much about his personal tally as long as it helps Inter win.

I came here. I worked hard, and I spoke with my teammates. I score and assist goals, but the important thing is that the team wins. Right now the team is winning. So I’m happy,” the Inter star finished.
