Marek Hamsik: “I Hope Next Summer is Unforgettable for Napoli”

Napoli legend Marek Hamsik believes his ex-team’s consistency in performing at the highest level is what sets them apart from competition. The Serie A league leaders have so far exceeded expectations, remaining unbeaten in the hunt for a first Scudetto title in over 30 years.

The now Trabzonspor midfielder spoke to Napoli Magazine (via Tuttomercatoweb) in a exclusive interview and shared some interesting thoughts on his beloved club.

“Scudetto? The championship is still long but the advantage accumulated by Napoli is significant after 15 matchdays. What has had the greatest impact on the Azzurri’s start to the season has been, in my opinion, the continuity of play and performances, which have always been of quality.”

Hamsik also had a say on the World Cup break.

“I don’t know if it can be positive or negative. Napoli were certainly moving at a very high pace, obtaining victories one after the other. But it is also true that now they can train and put more work into legs in such a way as to be ready for the recovery. With the new signings Napoli can now open a new lasting cycle. Many players have arrived at the right age to do well for a long time.”

Finally, he expressed his love for the city where he is now revered as a legend.

“I miss Naples, of course. But I will go back often when I stop playing football. In the summer I definitely want to meet my Neapolitan friends and I hope it can be an unforgettable summer for all of Napoli.”

The Slovakian is the highest-ever cap holder for Napoli, with 520 appearances. Hamsik scored 121 goals in his 12-season stint with the club.
