Mario Balotelli: “I Support Milan, But Owe My Career to Inter”

FC Sion forward Mario Balotelli has reminisced his time at the San Siro playing for both Inter and Milan over the span of his career. The versatile Palermo-born attacker rose to the limelight during his days at Inter, before experiencing two spells at Milan last decade, and he voiced his appreciated for the Nerazzurri’s influence on him.

Speaking in a podcast show (via MilanNews), Balotelli revealed in detail his relationship with Inter by taking an example from the 2009/10 treble-winning campaign.

“The famous semi-final against Barcelona? I get into the game well, but then I misses a couple of balls and San Siro whistles. I didn’t take it well, my mistake for the reaction and I was disappointed that day. I threw the shirt on the ground, I didn’t understand the meaning of the whistles for two or three wrong balls. Materazzi then chased me in the locker room and we argued verbally. It was a big brother reaction from him. I’m a Milan fan, but I owe my career to Inter. I loved them and I still love them very much, they launched me and believed in me, I owe everything to Moratti.”

Balotelli then shed light on Jose Mourinho, under whom he spent two seasons in the Nerazzurri colors.

“I had a good relationship with him, but we have two characters that are difficult to manage. We had clashes of ideas. We leave from Appiano to play in Catania, as soon as we leave Appiano I have an argument with Mou on the bus, but I don’t remember why. I only remember that I got off the bus, took the car and went home. Inter then lost the match 2-1.”

Former Italy international Balotelli scored 28 goals in 86 appearances for Inter, and 33 in 77 appearances for Milan.
