Mario Balotelli is hellbent on returning to Serie A after wandering between Turkey and Switzerland over the past three years. The 34-year-old is currently a free agent after running down his contract at Super Lig outfit Adana Demirspor last season.
While waiting for a new club, Balotelli joined a live stream on Twitch alongside former footballers Emiliano Viviano, Radja Nainggolan, and streamer Enerix, only to hear the latter pick Venezia forward Joel Pohjanpalo over him. This comment didn’t go well with ‘Super Mario.’
Seemingly frustrated with the streamer’s provocation, Balotelli had an outburst.
“What the f**k are you saying,” the former Inter and Milan striker replied. “Just because I wasn’t in Serie A, what I did doesn’t count? F**k off, you and Serie A. It’s a promise. I’ll smash Serie A when I sign [for a club], I smash this f*****g Serie A.“
It’s been a while since Balotelli last played in Serie A. His last appearance in Italy’s elite club competition was in 2016, during his loan at Milan from Liverpool. He returned to his homeland in 2019 to join second-tier Brescia before teaming up with Monza for the 2020/21 campaign.
However, Balotelli is eager to have one last dance in Serie A. He recently admitted refusing several foreign sides to prioritize a long-awaited home return. But, he has yet to receive a tangible proposal from domestic teams.
Interestingly, Genoa boss Alberto Gilardino has reportedly contacted the former Italy international to discuss his potential switch to Luigi Ferraris. Therefore, Balotelli could soon grace Serie A football fields again.
