Mario Balotelli Set to Join Serie B Side Monza

Mario Balotelli is about to sign a deal with Serie B club Monza. As reported by transfer market guru Gianluca Di Marzio, the 31-year-old Italian striker is expected to undergo medical test with the club owned by former Milan President Silvio Berlusconi on Monday.

Should everything go according to plan, Balotelli will join Monza on a six-month deal until June 2021, re-joining former Rossoneri Kevin Prince Boateng and Christian Brocchi, who is currently the coach of the Brianzoli.

That should be the end of the Balotelli transfer market saga, which saw SuperMario remaining without a club after being dumped by Brescia at the end of last season, and being link with numerous outlet, including Championship side Barnsely and, just last week, Brazilian powerhouse Vasco da Gama.

Traditionally considered a satellite club of Milan, Monza are an ambitious outlet that just made it back to the second division of the Italian football pyramid after more than 20 years of absence. Their ascent coincided with their acquisition by Silvio Berlusconi – who thus got back into the world of football, alongside with his loyal CEO Adriano Galliani – after selling Milan in 2017.

It is no secret that the ramping Brianzoli are aiming for a back-to-back promotion to Serie A, despite currently sitting 9th in the Serie B table. That would be the first time Monza make it to the Italian top-flight. With the help of Balotelli and former stars the likes of Boateng, the goal might become an even more realistic one.

For SuperMario, on the other hand, this is going to be yet another opportunity to redeem a career that has not fully lived up to its potential.
