Marotta Bids Perisic Farewell, Talks Dybala and Lukaku

Giuseppe Marotta addressed some hot-button topics related to Inter. The executive expressed some regret for failing to retain Ivan Perisic.

“We are sorry for what happened. However, we understand the choice of the player that already spent time in Italy and in the Bundesliga and wanted to move to the Premier League. Having reached a certain age, it was fair for him to decide his own destiny. We could not raise our bid. But I think his choice was more rooted in his desire for a change of scenery rather than driven by money. We respect and thank him. We will find a replacement, without forgetting that we already have Robin Gosens, whom we trust. He will be ready to step in.”

Marotta initially played coy on the rumors linking Inter to Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku to Inter (via Tuttomercatoweb) during the event L’Amico Atletico thrown by the Fondazione Cardinaletti Onlus.

“We must not rush things up. We already operated early in other instances. Our directors Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin do a nice work. You need professionalism and competence, but also creativity and a dose of courage too. The core of the team will be untouched. We will tackle the season with our usual ambitious goal.”

Later, he showed more confidence in their chances of landing the outbound Juventus star.

“In football there are statements called white lies. I do not know where he will play in the future, but our hope is that it will be with us.”
