Marseille Accelerating Talks to Sign Inter Teen Sensation

Marseille and Inter have reportedly initiated talks over Valentin Carboni’s potential transfer to the Stade Velodrome. According to French outlet FootMercato, via FCInterNews, the Ligue 1 giants have identified the Nerazzurri teenager as a concrete target for the summer.

Carboni left Inter to team up with Monza on a dry loan 12 months ago. Despite going from strength to strength at the Brianteo, the 19-year-old had to return to Giuseppe Meazza at the end of last season. Even though he’s an outstanding talent, it seems he has no future in Lombardia.

Argentina icon Lionel Messi heaped praise on the prodigious midfielder in the build-up to the 2024 Copa America. Carboni made his senior debut for La Albiceleste in a warm-up fixture against Guatemala. Manager Lionel Scaloni has even included the Inter starlet in his tournament squad.

While all signs are there, Inter are reluctant to give the youngster the benefit of the doubt. Instead, they’re looking to cash in on him in the coming months, with Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Lazio vying for his signature. However, Marseille are determined to spoil the Italians’ plans.

Talks with Inter are already underway. New Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi is Carboni’s admirer and sees him as an upgrade on his current midfield options. The two clubs are no strangers to doing business, as they agreed on Joaquin Correa’s loan switch last summer.

Though the Argentine forward stuttered in Ligue 1, Les Olympiens hope his countryman would be a difference-maker. They’ve already contacted his entourage to discuss a deal, with Inter unwilling to stand in their way.
