Marseille More Likely to Land Greenwood than Carboni

Olympique Marseille probably won’t sign both Mason Greenwood and Valentin Carboni, who aren’t mutually exclusive tactically but both rather pricey. They are closer to acquiring the former and could give up the chase for the Inter prodigy if they are successful, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The French side has been after the Argentine for multiple weeks but hasn’t come particularly close to his price tag thus far. Given his age and tremendous upside, the Nerazzurri would let him go only for about €40M.

Olympique Marseille have proposed at most €30M for Carboni and will spend a similar sum Greenwood if he gives his final greenlight. Roberto De Zerbi is in constant communication with him to convince him to join and overlook the local protest against the signing, Alfredo Pedullà reports.

The youngster is inclined to say yes. The two clubs have reached an agreement on the fee. The deal will envisage a sizeable resale clause, Gianluca Di Marzio relays. Without further hiccups, they’ll beat out Lazio, which was the most determined Serie A side. Instead, Juventus and Napoli only showed minor interest and needed some sales to ramp up their efforts. The Biancocelesti would mull targeting Armand Laurienté as a fallback.

Our Take on Olympique Marseille, Greenwood, and Carboni

Inter should cash in on him only to bankroll a major signing. Even though it’d be nice to add Albert Gudmundsson to their frontline to have more variety and punch off the bench, that’s not enough to lose a great talent. The Manchester United outcast would be worth the headache only at much lower figures.
