Marseille Shake Hands with Gattuso to Appoint New Manager

Just weeks after being linked to Olympique Lyonnais, where ex-Frosinone coach Fabio Grosso eventually moved to, Gennaro Gattuso is all set to join Olympique de Marseille as their new head coach. The Italian will succeed former manager Marcelino at the helm in Marseille.

Reportedly, the contract for Gattuso has been in the making for the past week. A two-year deal will be signed by Gattuso, valid until the summer of 2025.

Gattuso left Valencia earlier in the year following the termination of his contract with the club by mutual consent, and has been without a club since. He became a free agent at the end of January due to a run of poor results in the east of Spain.

Several clubs including Salernitana and Lyon were heavily linked to Gattuso earlier in the window, but Marseille have won the race to appoint him. He will succeed Jacques Abardonado, who took charge on an interim basis.

The Ligue 1 giants have been in uninspiring form since the start of the season. They sit eighth in Ligue 1 after six games, most recently falling 4-0 to close rivals Paris Saint-Germain in the French Clasico.
