Marseille to Hold Talks with Tiago Pinto for Roma Trio

Deals between Olympique de Marseille and Roma in the transfer market seem to be ever-increasing as the French giants are said to be interested in three Giallorossi players. After the successful transfers involving Pau Lopez and Cengiz Under over the past windows, the two clubs are touted to continue working together this summer.

General manager Tiago Pinto is likely to meet Marseille’s management in the coming days, and according to Corriere della Sera, Jordan Veretout and Justin Kluivert are the two contributors being targeted for. The capital club are currently on the verge of cutting down their 28-man squad.

The French midfield, who endured a rather tough season at the Stadio Olimpico under Jose Mourinho, prefers a move back to his home country. As he looks for more game time, Veretout has found another suitor in Ligue 1 rivals Lyon, and Roma’s asking price of €15M is very much accessible by all interested clubs. However, it is his €3M net per season wages that will pose as a barrier for all suitors.

Justin Kluivert on the other hand, returns back to the Italian capital after an underwhelming loan stint at Nice, where he scored 6 goals in 31 appearances in 2021/22. Roma have no intention of renewing his contract which expires in the summer of 2023. The Ajax youth product also has Monaco’s sights on him.

The third midfielder in the picture is Roma outcast Amadou Diawara, who hardly featured for the Special One last season. According to Sportitalia (via Foot-Sur7), the former Napoli midfielder is the number one contender to be offloaded and arguably the most accessible objective of the three, valued at just €6M.

The departure of highly-rated starlet Boubacar Kamara has opened up a channel for the Frenchmen to aim for a direct replacement. Marseille president Pablo Longoria is currently in Italy for business purposes, and a meeting with the Roma brass in Milan is in the books. The two clubs may after all take heed in their positive relationship and go ahead with negotiations.
