Lautaro Martinez, despite not scoring in the 2-0 win over Milan, put in a significant display to help threaten the Rossoneri enroute the first leg victory. A three-minute blitz by Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the first-half was enough to guide Inter to a first leg win, ahead of the return leg in five days’ time.
Martinez spoke to SportMediaset (via FCInterNews) following the game and rallied his side to continue the positive form that now sees them glide on a seven-match unbeaten streak.
“We have to continue as we are doing. In these last matches we have found important results in the league, so we have to continue working this way, as we’ve been doing this week, all together and united because this is it. If we do this, it will be easier to go where we want to go.”
The second leg is strongly in favor of the Nerazzurri, as they will enjoy the home advantage along with the two-goal cushion against an outfit seeking to grab a final spot for the first time since 2007.
