Allegri Deems High-Earning Midfielder Surplus to Requirements

Adrien Rabiot’s underwhelming career at Juventus could be drawing to a close as Massimiliano Allegri runs out of patience for the underperforming midfielder. According to Calciomercato, the Italian powerhouse will be ready to listen to offers for the former Paris Saint-Germain starlet in the January transfer window.

Rabiot swapped PSG for Juventus in summer 2019, turning down several lucrative offers from Barcelona and various Premier League sides to join the Bianconeri. However, the 26-year-old has never managed to hit the ground running in Serie A, experiencing numerous ups and downs throughout his two-and-a-half-year adventure in Italy.

After struggling to find his form under Maurizio Sarri and Andrea Pirlo, Rabiot was hopeful Allegri could spark his Juventus career. But the Frenchman has been in and out of the Italian’s set-up this season. Unfortunately for the deep-lying midfielder, he has failed to convince Allegri, who now considers putting the ex-PSG man on the market.

Juventus are looking to overhaul the squad that failed to mount any challenge on the Serie A title last season and continued to underperform this term. One of the players who could be shown the door in the winter transfer window is Rabiot, who remains on the club’s highest earners despite his lackluster performances.

Newcastle United are reportedly the front-runners in the race to sign the tall midfielder after the Saudi-led consortium’s takeover ensured fresh funds at St James’ Park. Rabiot’s mother-agent Veronique is currently busy assessing the prospect of moving her son to the Premier League, though much will depend on the Magpies’ top-flight status in England.

There’s no doubt the wealthy new owners will turn Newcastle into one of the protagonists in the upcoming transfer window. But the Tynesiders may first need to find their feet in the Premier League, having headed into November’s international break rooted to the relegation zone without a single league victory.
