Materazzi Expects Mourinho’s San Siro Return to be ‘Particularly Exciting’

Former Inter defender Marco Materazzi expects an exciting return to the Giuseppe Meazza for Jose Mourinho. Roma visit Milan in the quarter-final of the Coppa Italia, as Inter prepare for the second of their four high-profile encounters, having just arrived on the back of their loss in Derby di Milano.

Speaking to the microphones of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FCInterNews), the hard-headed center-back, who was a pivotal part of the Special One’s serial-winning Inter team in the late 2000s, revealed that everything will take a back seat as soon as the match kicks off.

“Mou has already played against Inter in the league and has already returned to Milan on other occasions, but this will be a particularly exciting match,” he started.

The 2006 World Cup winner also mentioned the fact that Mourinho will ‘experience the same sensations’ as Inter fans.

He continued: “But let’s not forget the qualification for the semifinals of Coppa Italia. Right now, his heart beats for Roma. On the sidelines, he will experience the same sensations that all Inter fans will experience: great love, gratitude, unforgettable memories, but when you play everything takes a back seat.”

Inter managed to edge Empoli by a 3-2 scoreline in the previous round, whereas Roma ousted Lecce 3-1 to secure qualification.

Jose Mourinho will return to face his former side on his old playing ground for the first time since leaving Inter for Real Madrid more than a decade ago.
