Matic Says Mourinho Key for Roma Transfer: “He Is a Winner”

The never-ending saga between Nemanja Matic and José Mourinho has opened up a brand new chapter at Stadio Olimpico, as the Serbian midfield ace joined Roma on a free transfer from Manchester United. The duo reunite for the second time in recent memory after the Special One took him to Old Trafford with him, having spent time together beforehand at Chelsea in 2014/15.

33-year-old Matic believes Mourinho is the perfect coach for him to continue his career as he leaves behind a strong Premier League legacy of more than 300 top-flight appearances.

“I’ve already worked with him and we have a good connection. He is one of the reasons why I came here. It’s not only easy to work with him, it can be hard! But he’s a winner and he’s exactly what I want from my coach. Winning is all I want in my career.” (via The Sun)

Matic hopes to etch a memorable stint at Roma, saying that the choice to move to the Italian capital wasn’t hard, especially given that Mourinho is at the helm.

“He transmits that energy to the players. I hope we can do big things together. The Giallorossi have a great base of supporters, are playing in a very attractive league, so for me the decision was not so hard.”

The Serb was instrumental in the Special One’s previous teams, having starred almost uninterruptedly under him in Chelsea and Manchester United.
