Maurizio Sarri Rebuffs Olympique Marseille Job

Olympique Marseille reached out to Maurizio Sarri after the shocking resignations of Andre Villas Boas, but the former Juventus boss is not interested in taking over a team in the middle of the season, transfer market experts Gianluca Di Marzio and Alfredo Pedullà reported.

Villas Boas stepped down over disagreements related the transfer market strategies and pointed out the deadline day acquisition of Oliver Ntcham as one of the examples. He has been suspended by the French club, which are evaluating further form of punishments.

Sarri remains under contract with Juventus, which includes a €6M salary and a €2.5M clause in case it was not extended for the 2021/22 season, which the manager will receive in the summer. Despite winning the Scudetto, he was relieved from his duties after the elimination in the Champions League round of 16 at the hands of Lyon and due to a rocky relationship with the locker room.

Pedullà indicated that Sarri recently received a call from Aurelio De Laurentiis offering him a return to Napoli amidst a simmering crisis with Gennaro Gattuso, but Sarri did not change his stance of waiting till the summer to pick a new team. Something that he might reconsider only if Roma come calling, as he likes the squad a lot, similarly to Massimiliano Allegri.

Gazzetta dello Sport informs that Rafa Benitez, now a free agent after his time at Dalian, is a strong option for Marseille. He too was linked to the Partenopei in recent days.
