Maurizio Sarri Unfazed by Yet Another Lazio Defeat

Mauricio Sarri is adamant Lazio are ‘still on the right track’ despite going down 2-0 at the hands of Milan on Saturday evening. Biancocelesti struggled to create many chances in an otherwise disappointing defeat at San Siro, but the experienced manager believes there’s no reason for panic.

Second-half goals from Christian Pulisic and Noah Okafor inspired Milan to a comfortable home victory. Lazio thought they had pulled one back late in the game when Pedro curled a delightful effort past Mike Maignan from the edge of the box. However, VAR disallowed his screamer for offside in the build-up.

Lazio hoped for a better result in Lombardy after arresting a three-game winless run in all competitions with a 2-0 midweek win over Torino. However, Milan proved a formidable host for Biancocelesti yet again, putting Sarri’s side to the sword in a fourth consecutive Serie A meeting at San Siro.

While another loss left Lazio stranded in the lower reaches, Sarri doesn’t seem concerned about his team’s underwhelming Serie A start.

We had an impressive first half. We created many moves on the attack and didn’t even turn them into scoring opportunities,” the Lazio boss told DAZN, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio.

We struggled the first 15 minutes of the second half to break out from our sector, then had a good period between the two goals. I still think we are on the right track.

Lazio won’t have to wait long to put Sarri’s statement to the test as they encounter Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday.
