Juventus and Massimiliano Allegri had a nasty break-up less than 48 hours after beating Atalanta in the Coppa Italia final last month. Tensions have escalated and will get a resolution in court as the Italian manager took his abrupt dismissal personally.
Allegri wasn’t a popular figure among Juventus fans during his time at the helm. His vision of the game and conservative approach never went well with the Turin faithful. But his latest actions have only fuelled the fire of discontent.
In these unpleasant times for the Scudetto winner, his former Juventus captain, Giorgio Chiellini, came to his aid. One of the greatest defenders of his generation felt the urge to support Allegri during his interview with Sky Sport Italia on Saturday.
“Juventus did the best they could this year. Not even Pep Guardiola could have done more,” Chiellini said.
Juventus will return to the Champions League next season despite an unenviable Serie A campaign. By the looks of things, Thiago Motta will get a taste of European football for the first time as a manager.
He’s closing in on replacing Allegri at the Allianz Stadium following a superb season with Bologna. And Chiellini believes Motta could be a catalyst to bring Juventus back into the Scudetto frame.
“Even as a player, he was already coaching from the middle of the pitch. You could always tell he was going to become a coach in the future.” the former Juventus stalwart stated.
“What he did this season was extraordinary. I hope he will settle well with the Bianconeri. He has everything required to do well, and I am confident.“
