Still frustrated after a dismal 1-1 draw against Empoli last weekend and deprived of the services of several first-team stars, Juventus seemed apathetic against the best-performing Serie A team. Inter dominated the game as Federico Gatti’s own goal inspired them to a well-deserved victory.
In addition to relinquishing a three-game unbeaten H2H streak in Serie A, Juventus lost crucial ground on Inter, allowing Simone Inzaghi’s high-flyers to move four points clear at the top of the tree. The record-time Italian champions face an uphill task to regain a foothold in the title race. But Allegri urges his team to stay composed and see out their top-four chase.
“We must continue to follow our path and focus only on that: it was a difficult match, Inter found the advantage in the first half. In the second half, the match was split and they are always dangerous on the counter,” the Juventus manager told the club’s website.
“I have nothing to criticize my players for: this week was negative, it happens, but we have to make sure that things change against Udinese.“
Inter inflicted the first defeat on Juventus since late September when Sassuolo humbled Bianconeri 4-2.
