McKennie Suddenly Slated to Extend Juventus Contract

Weston McKennie is tipped to stay put at Juventus after having one foot out the door for the second summer in a row. He had been frozen out from the squad in June due to his expiring contract and salary demands. His personal requests hindered the swap with Douglas Luiz. The Bianconeri had to change their makeweight. They gave up Enzo Barrenechea and increased the cash portion of their offer.

According to TuttoSport, the USMNT staple turned down a move to the MLS, Saudi Arabia, and second-tier teams in various leagues. He didn’t take part in the friendlies. However, the situation changed right before the opener. He re-joined the rest of the squad in training and made the bench for the Como tilt.

The  turn of events stemmed from the fact that McKennie and his entourage started showing interest in an extension, eliminating the risk of a Bosman departure. He will put pen to paper in short order. His representative and the Bianconeri’s higher-ups are finalizing a one-year renewal with an option until 2027 at his current €2.5M yearly wages.

The Old Lady will still likely part ways with a midfielder as a result of this situation and Teun Koopmeiners’ possible arrival. Fabio Miretti will join Genoa on loan once that happens.

Our Take on Juventus and McKennie

Even though he’s not the most consistent player, the reservations about him were more technical than economical, and were legitimate due to a possible exit for naught. It’d be odd if he stayed at the same figures without even a slight pay bump. He’ll have a more suitable role in their rotation after their additions.
