Milan About to Finalize Acquisition of Pietro Pellegri from Monaco

Milan have found their new young striker. Pietro Pellegri is having medicals ahead of the completion of the transfer. The former Monaco player will round out the frontline alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud. The club will formally announce the deal in the next few hours, Tuttomercatoweb reports.

Milan reached agreement with Monaco on a season-long loan with option to buy. They will pay an initial €500k fee and eventually €6M to make the transfer permanent. That will be automatic if certain conditions are met during the season. Moreover, the package includes a €1M bonus if Pellegri scores 10 goals in 2021-2022 and the 15 percent of a future sale, Calciomercato.com informs.

The 20-year-old striker arrived in Milan yesterday. He told the press at the airport: “I am happy, I look forward to starting this new adventure.” He heads back to Italy after three years in the Principality. Few injuries marred his sojourn and limited him to 23 games and 2 goals.

Pellegri broke out at Genoa when he was extremely young, hitting the net twice during the 2017-2018 season. Monaco signed him for €20M, but physical problems derailed his first two-and-half campaigns. He was relatively healthier in the most recent one, where he managed to feature 16 times. He debuted with Italy in November 2020, even though he has no caps with the U-21 squad. Milan were looking to add a third option up front, preferably for cheap, earlier in the window. They had targeted Kaio Jorge, but Juventus won the race.
