Marco Pellegrino has jumped ahead of Konstantinos Koulierakis in the two-man race to round out the Milan defense. The front office had new contacts with Atletico Platense to set up the deal. Sampdoria are after the center-back too, Gianluca Di Marzio informs.
The Rossoneri seem to prefer the Argentine before he costs less. PAOK have slapped a €10M price tag on their talent. The Blucerchiati might drop out of the picture because they are on the verge of onboarding Facundo Gonzalez on loan from Juventus.
Milan can purchase Pellegrino by activating a €5M release clause. However, they might open talks with his side to get him at a lower sum, perhaps including a resale clause. Platense’s president is flying to Italy to haggle.
The center-back participated in a radio show hosted by the Liga Profesional Argentina and was indirectly quizzed about the prospective transfer. He was asked whether he speaks Italian (via OneFootball).
“I do, and I get by. Let’s not exaggerate, though.”
The 21-year-old made 17 appearances in 2023, scoring once. He has spent his entire young career at Atletico Platense.
Our Take on Milan and Pellegrino
Koulierakis is more established, but, considering how little any newcomer would feature, especially in the first few months, they shouldn’t shell out too much money. A trustworthy veteran would suffice too.
