Milan and Monza have reportedly agreed on a deal for Daniel Maldini to join the Biancorossi on a permanent transfer this summer. According to Sky Sport Italia, the two teams have made an accord for the 22-year-old to return to the Brianteo Stadium permanently.
Though Sky’s update fails to mention figures, several domestic sources report a fee of around €5 million. Milan loaned Maldini out to Monza last January to help their unsettled forward secure regular first-team football and gain a much-needed Serie A experience.
Maldini fared reasonably well under Raffaele Palladino in the second half of last season, hauling four goals to help Monza lock down another mid-table finish. Impressed with Maldini’s performance, former Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has been on a mission to secure the youngster’s permanent switch to the Brianteo since the beginning of the summer.
Weeks of talks have finally paid off. But it’s still surprising that Milan almost effortlessly gave up Paolo Maldini’s son. There’s a feeling Paulo Fonseca’s men haven’t handed the young gun a proper chance to showcase his worth at the Stadio San Siro.
Maldini delivered a scintillating performance in a pre-season friendly against Rapid Wien. He set up Alessandro Florenzi for a goal as Milan drew 1-1 in their opening off-season game. Despite joining Fonseca’s squad for a cross-Atlantic trip, he’ll not be part of the United States tour as he is on his way back to Italy to join Monza.
In the meantime, Milan have struggled on the incoming front. Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso is the latest name linked with a move to Lombardia.
