Milan Agree Personal Terms with French Midfielder

It looks like Serie A heavyweights Milan have just entered ‘key stages‘ of their pursuit of Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana. Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano dropped a bombshell on Wednesday night, claiming the French star accepted Rossoneri’s contract proposal.

Fofana is keen to team up with Milan. He has found common ground with the 19-time Italian champions relatively quickly. After receiving the player’s go-ahead, Paulo Fonseca’s men must convince Monaco to sanction a deal. That could prove rather tricky.

Les Monégasques have already turned down a lucrative bid from Nottingham Forest worth €30 million. But it’s hard they’ll get a similar offer from Milan. Fofana’s contract at the Stade Louis II runs out in 2025, pressuring Monaco to offload their wantaway star soon.

With the player unwilling to renew his contract in the French principality, Monaco have their backs against the wall. Indeed, Milan have last season’s Ligue 1 runners-up on the ropes, especially after agreeing on personal terms with Fofana.

Since Monaco are reluctant to lose their prized asset on a free transfer in 12 months, Milan can sit back and wait. However, negotiations between the clubs are underway. Fonseca would ideally have Fofana at his disposal from the start of pre-season preparations.

His potential arrival could accelerate Ismael Bennacer’s exit. The Algeria international has drawn interest from the Saudi Pro League. Milan are ready to listen to offers for the ex-Arsenal starlet. They expect to earn up to €50m from his sale.
