Serie A heavyweights Milan are making strides in their endeavor to sign Red Bull Salzburg center-back Strahinja Pavlovic. According to Fabrizio Romano’s recent update, the Italians have agreed on personal terms with the Serbia international over a ‘long-term’ contract.
Though a new defender isn’t among the club’s priorities, Milan are close to completing Pavlovic’s arrival. The 23-year-old should be a long-term replacement for Simon Kjaer, who waved goodbye to the Stadio San Siro at the end of last season.
Negotiations between Milan and Salzburg are underway. After receiving the player’s go-ahead, the Rossoneri are confident of finding common ground with the Austrian outfit on short notice. Pavlovic won’t come cheap, though.
Milan may need to part with up to €25 million to bring the Serbian to Italy. But they hope to close the operation for under €20m.
Pavlovic is a left-footed defender with an impressive physical quality. While he’s already a dependable center-back, he could still improve, especially in the tactical aspect. But he’d, nonetheless, be a decent signing for Milan.
On the other hand, it’s still uncertain whether Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw will play for Milan next season. Both players have drawn interest from Premier League powerhouse Newcastle United. However, the club is keen to keep hold of their two defensive pillars.
In addition to Pavlovic, Milan could make further adjustments at the back. Romano’s report states they’re still in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over Emerson Royal’s move to Serie A.
