Milan and Inter After Barcelona Loanee Shining at Lecce

Samuel Umtiti is having a bounce-back season at Lecce, and his strong showings have landed him on the radar of bigger clubs like Milan and Inter. The 29-year-old has mostly managed to stay healthy and will potentially be a bargain next summer.

The defender joined Lecce on a simple loan for a €100k fee. He’s under contract with Barcelona until 2026 but is unlikely to stay with them. They already have a plethora of options in his role and have had one of the stingiest backlines in Europe this season.

Per Sport (via Tuttomercatoweb), Inter and Milan are keeping tabs on Umtiti and would be ready to pounce if he parted ways with the Blaugrana for a meager sum, even better if on a free. Another temporary spell could be in order too. In such event, the Catalunya side would contribute to paying his wages, although in a less onerous manner than in the present campaign.

The veteran needed some time to adjust to his new surroundings and get fully into shape after missing almost the entire past season. He has played consistently and fared well since November, skipping just one fixture due to a minor thigh problem.

Our Take on Umtiti, Milan, and Inter

He’d be a decent option for both sides if gettable for almost nothing. The Rossoneri would need more defenders if they planned to stick with a three-man rearguard, and they don’t have a left-footed one. Instead, he’d be a younger alternative to Francesco Acerbi for Inter. Juventus, which will surely sign somebody at the position next summer, could also be a viable landing spot.
