Milan and Inter Set to Battle It Out for Lazar Samardzic

Udinese’s rising star Lazar Samardzic could be a subject of a transfer tug-of-war between eternal rivals Milan and Inter this summer. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Simone Inzaghi’s men have joined their neighbors in the race to sign the highly-rated midfielder.

Samardzic has emerged as a potential contender to fill the vacancy following Sandro Tonali’s mega-money move to Newcastle United. Talks between Udinese and Milan over the 21-year-old’s move to San Siro reportedly started last week. However, Inter are ready to hijack a deal.

No strangers to busting their rivals’ transfer plans, the Nerazzurri have already defeated Milan to the signature of Marcus Thuram. But they have no intention of stopping there. In addition to competing with the Rossoneri for Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi, they’re now looking to pursue Samardzic.

The Serbia international enjoyed an eye-catching breakout campaign at the Dacia Arena last season. In 39 appearances across all competitions, he racked up five goals and four assists. As one of Andrea Sottil’s standout performers, he has become one of Udinese’s most valuable assets.

With Milan on the lookout for Brahim Diaz’s heir, Samardzic has become a concrete target for Stefano Pioli. A deal to bring Daichi Kamada to Serie A has proved more complicated than expected, forcing the Rossoneri to explore other options in the market.

However, Milan must step up their efforts to land the Udinese midfielder unless they are to suffer another bad beat, as they did in Thuram’s case.
