Milan and Juventus Injured Stars Likely to Return in Sunday Clash

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Federico Chiesa both have good chances to be present in Sunday’s big game between Juventus and Milan. The two forwards missed the midweek Champions League fixtures, but their injuries are not severe.

The Swedish striker returned from offseason knee surgery against Lazio, hitting the net. However, he experienced some Achilles tendon soreness following the match. He did not practice early in the week to let it rest. According to Corriere della Sera, the problem is minor, and a few more days should be enough for him to heal. Milan will most likely start Ante Rebic against Liverpool, as Olivier Giroud has only a half in his legs following a bout with COVID-19.

Instead, Chiesa sat out the last two Juventus tilts due to a thigh issue. He felt some discomfort in his flexor muscle during his time with Italy. The ensuing tests came back clean, but the coaching staff opted to play it safe to avoid more serious problems. The player posted an optimistic pic Wednesday, penning: “On the way back.”

His absences have been mostly precautionary, Tuttosport informs. The winger is set to ramp up his activity in practice in the lead-up to the game. The coach will make the call late, but there is palpable optimism he will be good to go by Sunday. At that point, it will be up to Massimiliano Allegri to decide whether to start him or have him come off the bench against Milan. He shined in the first two matches of the season.
