Milan and Man United in Tug-of-War for Joshua Zirkzee

Restless negotiations between Milan and Joshua Zirkzee have been the leading storyline of the early summer. According to Calciomercato, the next 15 days will be critical for the Dutchman’s heavily anticipated transfer to Stadio San Siro.

Zirkzee has emerged as the number one candidate to replace Olivier Giroud at the heart of the Milan attack. The 23-year-old forward is away on international duty with the Netherlands. With Ronald Koeman’s side taking on Romania in the Euro 2024 round of 16, he doesn’t want any distractions.

He has asked his agent, Kia Joorabchian, to put all talks surrounding his future on hold. Zirkzee is poised to help the Netherlands make a standout result in Germany. After that, he’ll discuss his future with Bologna and his agent. Milan must be patient, but they’re unwilling to waste the summer on a goose chase.

It’s no secret that Milan are ready to pay Bologna €40 million to sign the ex-Bayern Munich starlet. However, Joorabchian’s request for a €15m commission fee has poured cold water on the Rossoneri. They’d walk away from Zirkzee unless his entourage waver on his irrational demands.

As if Joorabchian’s greediness wasn’t repelling enough, Milan might have to beat Manchester United to Zirkzee’s signature. Erik ten Hag has identified his compatriot as a perfect solution to address the Red Devils’ attacking shortcomings.

Unlike Milan, Manchester United would have no problems quenching Joorabchian’s thirst for money. Therefore, the Italians can’t afford to lose time if they’re to bring Zirkzee to San Siro.
