Milan and Napoli Keep Putting Up Record Numbers in Scintillating Start

With yesterday’s win over Roma, Milan officially registered their best start ever in Serie A. They had never collected 10 wins in the first 11 rounds. They are just the third team that managed in the history of the League. Juventus have done it twice, and so have Napoli, which are top of the table alongside the Rossoneri.

Milan have tied 2018 Juventus for away wins in a calendar year. They got their 15th  one versus the Giallorossi. They will have the opportunity to break the record (18) set by Napoli in 2017. They handed José Mourinho his first home loss in Serie A. He had stayed undefeated during his Inter spell. They are also the team that has scored the most from outside the box in the top five European leagues, according to FootData.

Napoli had begun equally well in the final season with Maurizio Sarri at the helm. They finished with 91 points in that campaign. They have kept eight clean sheets, seven of which since mid-September, which tops everybody in the Old Continent. They have not conceded in four straight Serie A games for the first time since February 2019. David Ospina has not allowed a goal in 737 minutes, also considering his matches with Colombia.

Milan and Napoli have built a seven-point lead over Inter, while all the other pre-season competitors are reeling. The Nerazzurri will look to deter what is shaping up to be a two-team race in the Derby della Madonnina coming up in Round 12.
