Brahim Diaz wasn’t supposed to be a regular starter this season since Milan invested heavily in Charles De Ketelaere. Instead, he has benefitted from his new teammates’ woes and has been much more consistent than last season.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri will use the rest of the campaign to fully evaluate the Spaniard ahead of the summer decision. They have an option to redeem him for €22M, on top of the €3M they spent in 2021. But Real Madrid have a clause to bring him back for €27M, which they can’t counter. Carlos Ancelotti is reportedly a fan of the player.
On the other hand, nothing prevents Milan and Los Galacticos from re-negotiating the terms for Brahim Diaz, but it won’t happen in January. The Scudetto winners already did it with Brescia for Sandro Tonali in the past. In such scenario, the will of the player would be a deciding factor.
Given the uncertainty, the Rossoneri are eyeing some options in the same role, as for instance Houssem Aouar, who’s on an expiring contract. Juventus have been burned by this formula for Alvaro Morata, and the pull of playing for Real Madrid is always powerful. They’d surely be happy to keep him, both for his skill set and because the price isn’t too high, but it’s probably not a coincidence that they have started looking for alternatives.
